Vitamin C

L-Ascorbic acid

The antioxidant cofactor collagen synthesis can't run without.

Biology

An essential water-soluble antioxidant vitamin and a required cofactor for the enzymes that build stable collagen.

Mechanism of action

Cofactor for collagen hydroxylation — the step that stabilises the collagen triple helix — while neutralising reactive oxygen species and inhibiting excess melanogenesis to even tone.

Stability & formulation

Notoriously sensitive to light, air and water — which is exactly why in-clinic, transdermal delivery outperforms a jar left open on a shelf.

Synergy in the formula

Regenerates oxidised Vitamin E at the membrane, so the two antioxidants recharge each other — the classic C+E network in Tocoforte.
